Wind Turbine Component Transportation

From early October 2023, wind turbine and tower components are being trucked from GeelongPort to the project site near Rokewood for Golden Plains Wind Farm – East.

Different routes through Geelong will be used depending on which component is being transported. Read more.

    Traffic Alert – Bells Road Intersection

    On Sunday 8 October 2023, Bells Road-GPEC Intersection will be closed most of the day to support necessary works at the Golden Plains Wind Farm site.

    Access for local traffic only and traffic management services will be in place.

    Traffic Alert – Two Bridges Road Upgrade

    Two Bridges Road upgrade and maintenance works set to commence Thursday 22 June, between Potters Road & Meadows Road. Works due to be completed Saturday 24 June (subject to weather). Please abide by temporary traffic restrictions.

    Traffic Alert – Meadows Road To Commence

    Meadows Road widening upgrade will be commencing from Monday 15 May 2023 for approx. 2 weeks.

    Starting 2km south of Ford Road and will extend for approx. 2.5km’s. Access for local traffic and Emergency Services available under traffic management.

    Traffic Alert – Wingeel Road Works Completed

    Wingeel Road shoulder widening upgrade is now complete.

    Intersection Upgrade works are now underway at the Wingeel Road & Cressy-Shelford Road intersection. Traffic restrictions and delays will apply during this time.     Traffic Alert – Wingeel Road To Commence

    Current Road widening Upgrades works are taking place on the North end of Bells Road. These are due to move to the Southern End later this week.

    Wingeel Road widening Upgrade works set to commence from Monday 27 February 2023. Traffic restrictions and delays will apply during this time. Drivers are advised to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.

    Traffic Alert – Intersection closure at Bells Road/ Rokewood-Shelford Road

    Friday 16 December 2022

    Golden Plains Shire advises that Geggies Road and Bells Road will be closed at Rokewood-Shelford Road across Monday 19 December – Wednesday 21 December, weather permitting.

    These full closures are required to complete asphalting works as part of intersection upgrades in preparation for construction of the Golden Plains Wind Farm.

    Geggies Road at the Rokewood-Shelford Road intersection is expected to be closed for 24-36 hours from Monday 19 December. Bells Road at the Rokewood-Shelford Road intersection is expected to be closed for 24-36 hours from Tuesday 20 December. These closures only apply to the local roads, not Rokewood-Shelford Road.

    Geggies and Bells Road will still be accessible from the south at Shelford-Cressy Road.

    All roads within the work area will have a reduced speed limit of 40km/h for the duration of the works. Drivers are advised to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.

    Construction activity will be reduced over the Christmas period from 24 December to 11 January, with only minor works taking place during this time.

    Traffic Alert – Intersection closure at Bells Road/ Rokewood-Shelford Road

    Golden Plains Shire Council advises that the intersection of Bells Road and Rokewood-Shelford Road will be temporarily closed on Saturday 26 November 2022.

    The closure will allow for the removal of an abandoned culvert which has been identified under Bells Road.

    Access in-and-out of Bells Road will be limited to the Cressy-Shelford Road intersection for the duration of the culvert removal on Saturday.

    Golden Plains Shire Council and the Department of Transport remind drivers that Rokewood-Shelford Road remains closed due to flood damage at the Warrambine Creek. Detours are in place via Cressy-Shelford Road and Colac-Ballarat Road, with drivers advised to avoid using unsealed local roads as alternate routes.

    Drivers are advised to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.

    Traffic Alert – Rokewood-Shelford Road at Geggies Road and Bells Road

    Golden Plains Shire Council advises that intersection upgrades on Rokewood-Shelford Road will commence on Monday 21 November at Geggies Road and Bells Road.

    Geggies Road intersection 

    Access to Geggies Road will remain open under traffic management between 7:00am – 5:00pm, with drivers required to follow the directions of traffic controllers and/ or traffic lights. 

    Bells Road intersection 

    Access to Bells Road continues to be limited between 7:00am – 5:00pm to local traffic and essential services only. Additionally, Rokewood-Shelford Road will now operate under traffic management at the intersection during this time, with traffic reduced to a single lane under the direction of traffic controllers and/ or traffic lights. 

    Due to current road conditions as a result of recent heavy rainfall, drivers are advised to use Cressy-Shelford Road and Colac-Ballarat Road as preferred detour routes. Drivers are also reminded that Rokewood-Shelford Road is currently closed to through traffic due to flood damage.

    All roads within the work area will have a reduced speed limit of 40km/h for the duration of the works, the duration of the works are weather dependent.

    Traffic Alert – Bells Road, Rokewood

    Golden Plains Shire Council advises that road improvement works in preparation for the Golden Plains Wind Farm will recommence on Bells Road from Monday 7 November (weather permitting).

    Pavement upgrade works will commence at the northern end of Bells Road, with the road operating under traffic management between 7:00am – 5:00pm for local residents and essential services only. These traffic conditions are expected to be in place for three weeks.

    Culvert replacements will also commence at the northern end of Bells Road, with the road closed in sections whilst works are undertaken between 7:00am – 5:00pm. Drivers can detour via Geggies Road, with these traffic conditions expected to be in place for 8 – 10 days, weather dependent.

    Drivers are advised to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.

    Traffic Alert – Bells Road, Rokewood

    Golden Plains Shire Council advises that road improvement works in preparation for the Golden Plains Wind Farm will commence on Bells Road from Thursday 20 October (weather permitting).

    Road stabilisation, culvert replacement, and other improvement works will commence on the unsealed section of Bells Road, approximately 1.5km north of the Cressy-Shelford Road intersection.

    Bells Road will be under traffic management between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm, with reduced speed limits and various sections of road closed, with access limited to residential and essential services traffic only. These traffic conditions are expected to be in place until mid-December.

    Detours will be in place during any road closures and drivers are advised to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.

    Traffic Alert – Geggies Road and Bells Road, Rokewood

    Golden Plains Shire Council advises that as part of road upgrade works on Bells Road and Geggies Road, there will be changed traffic conditions from Monday 18 July 2022 until late 2022.

    Speed limits on both roads will be reduced between Rokewood-Shelford Road and Cressy-Shelford Road, with various sections closed with access limited to local traffic only.

    Access to these roads from Rokewood-Shelford Road and Cressy-Shelford Road will also have altered conditions. Drivers are advised to follow the directions of signage when travelling in the area.

    Road works will take place between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

    Drivers are asked to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.
